The equipment This sport is called football not because you play the ball with the foot. The reason is that the length of the ball is one foot (about 30 cm)

The helmet is the same for everyone but the facemask can change a lot depending on the position of the player

The shoulderpads are important as it is used mainly to hit the opponents

The shoes are made out of leather or synthetic or both. They are named cleats. Depending on the surface on which the game will be played different type of shoes are worn.

The offense, always has the possiession of the ball before each action.
Each Action starts the same way: A player (center) of the offensive line (OL) passes the ball between his legs to the Quarterback (QB). At this moment all players are let go and the action starts

The football culture

American football in the US is more than a sport, it is a religion.

It is also a way for very poor young men to find wealth and glory.
But before reaching that tempting glory and wealth a player has to go through many hurdles:

• High school (age 14 to 17)

The Strategy

American football is a very strategic sport

There are hundreds of precise rules and 7 referees are present on the field to make sure that the rules are followed

The essence of the interest for this sport lies on the basic rule as follows: A team has 4 tries (downs) to cover 10 yards. If it can advance at least 10 yards in 4 downs then it can continue to progress, on the other hand, if it could not cover the 10 yards in 4 tries then it has to give the possession of the ball to the opponent.

NCAA football is also known as College football or pigskin football.

Each team is a college (university) and they compete in divisions. The division that has the best teams is called the Division IA and is divided in to different conferences. The players are amateurs (they do not get paid to play) but they get a scholarship. Each football team can offer a free education to 85 players. NCAA football is very popular and get crowds of 100 000 spectators and generates millions of dollars per game in the USA.
